Questions
What is the best AI trip planner?
It depends on the job. For booking flights and hotels from a chat, Layla and Mindtrip are built for it. For planning a day-by-day itinerary with friends, Wanderlog. For keeping booking confirmations together, TripIt. For a map of the places worth going in a city, with the sources and travel videos behind each one, Varedelo, which publishes this page.
Are AI trip planners free?
Most have a free tier. Mindtrip, GuideGeek and Wonderplan are free; Layla, Wanderlog, Rhyme, TripIt and Stippl sell an optional subscription; ChatGPT and Gemini have free tiers with paid plans. Varedelo has a free first-map trial, then charges once per destination with no subscription.
How is this list ordered?
By the number of US App Store ratings, read from Apple when the page is built. It is a public measure of how many people use each app, not a quality score. Web-only tools have no store count and come last, alphabetically.
Which AI trip planners show where their recommendations come from?
Varedelo shows the sources for every place, and ChatGPT cites web pages in its answers. For the other apps we could not find documentation either way, so the table says "Not documented" rather than guessing.
Why is Roam Around not listed?
Roam Around, one of the first AI itinerary generators (2023), was acquired by Layla in 2024; its original site now redirects to layla.ai and its apps have not been updated since 2023.
