Mark Wiens was impressed by the dense, gummy texture of the pastelles en hoja, noting how the banana leaf aroma deeply infuses the plantain dough. He particularly enjoyed the contrast of the crispy, thin-wrapped empanadas loaded with oozing cheese and chicken. Mark concluded that the addition of salsa picante was the essential touch to balance the heavy, starchy street foods.
